School Programs


Our environmentally-focused and interactive programs serve children and youth in elementary, middle and high schools, preschools, clubs and summer groups in the Capital Regional District. To book a program call Nashira Birch at 386-WORM (9676) during our regular office hours. Workshops are offered Wednesday to Friday, January to November. Programs range from one to two hours and may be delivered at our demonstration site or at your facility. We have three different programming areas:

Kids Summer Camp!


Teach your kids to be ”Green” at Summer Camp at the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre. This exciting new summer camp program offers fun and educational outdoor experiences including: Exploring urban farms; building our own compost bins; playing with red wriggler worms; learning about local food; planting seeds and growing veggies; arts and crafts; outdoor games and activities; big end of the week field trip; and much more! Have a GREEN Birthday Party at the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre!


Leave the hassle and waste at home with our on-site children’s birthday parties. These birthday parties offer a fun and exciting atmosphere, while promoting sustainable living. We offer great activities geared at teaching kids all about the wonders of gardens and soil while providing fun birthday party games such as: Face painting, pin the tail on the worm, find the red wriggler worms, nature treasure hunt, and guess how many worms in a bucket. Bring your own lunch, but leave the delicious worm cake to us. Available Wed-Sat. $75 for 10 kids (plus cost of cake). For additional information call (250)386-WORM or email outreach@compost.bc.ca. SLUGS:Sustainable Living and Urban Gardening Skills Youth Program:



Are you interested in learning about urban farming?

Want to learn to grow your own food? Join our urban gardening and sustainability youth group for youth aged 15-18. The program will run from Feb 4th - Aug/Sept 2010 with weekend field trips, gardening projects, loads of awesome guest speakers, and of course delicious FOOD!


Exciting news!! You can now take the SLUGS workshops without committing to the whole Feb-Sept season. Anyone can come at any time (Cost for drop-in is $5)and due to a generous grant we have received, you can also join up for the remainder of the season at anytime for only $75 - with bursaries still available
